The List of the Kyoto Protocol Parties is Expanding

The Parliament of Montenegro has ratified Kyoto Protocol. Now the country could benefit from hosting projects under clean development mechanism (CDM), which are aimed at greenhouse gases emission reduction.
The State Union Serbia and Montenegro intended to ratify the Protocol last year, but disintegration of the states in June 2006 postponed the procedure.
Requiring urgent renovation, the energy sector of the country has the most potential for implementation of CDM projects. Montenegro has already signed a co-operation agreement concerning realisation of CDM projects with the Ministry of Environment, Territory and Marine Protection of Italy, which is going to take all the expenses on infrastructure development. Italy also intends to engage other Eastern European countries, including Serbia and Albania, into carbon market. Serbia is going to ratify the Protocol during the latter half of the year.
